DIY: Distressed capris from old jeans

Ever got those jeans you never wear anymore and want to get rid of it? Instead of throwing them out you can recreate shorts or capris out of it :]

Back in my high school days I use to wear flare jeans a lot but now I only wear skinny jeans because of my size and height flare tends to make me look even shorter.

Step 1)
First you would need a old pair of jeans and try them on

I can't believe I still fit the same jeans since I was in high school and that's like 8 years ago! Shows that I haven't grown lol

Step 2)
While you have your jeans on use a chalk or a white eyeliner and mark how short you would want the length of your capris or shorts and then add an extra 2-3 inches long because you will end up folding the ends.

Step 3)
Now go ahead and start cutting along the mark

Make sure both ends are even

Step 4)
Now with an old book that you don't want or a wooden block slip them inside one of the leg. This will help protect the back side of the leg from getting cut when you start making distress marks

Step 5)
With a razor blade start making a several horizontal lines, the more lines the more distressed it will look.

Step 6)
Another idea is you can make little holes and use an old nail filer or sand paper to give it another distress look

Step 7)
You can add studs to give it a edgier look. I got these pyramid studs on Ebay.

Step 8)
Once you're done just throw your jeans in a washer and dryer or hang dry

This is what the jeans will look like after washing and drying

Step 9)
Fold the ends 2 times, if you remember from "Step 2" I mention to add an extra 2-3 inches and this is why.

Viola! No need to spend extra money to buy shorts or capris :]

I love this tutorial! It's perfect since I have a large number of old jeans that I don't wear because they're already so ratty, and now with your tutorial I can make them trendy! Thank you so much!!
